Try our dog quiz now and discover which dogs may fit into your family or situation and get more insight into things you should consider when choosing a dog breed.

How much space do you have, what type of house do you have?

(which of the following best depicts your living situation)

type of house

A - It may be a squeeze to adopt a big dog who needs a lot of room to run off their energy if you live in an apartment. In this case, it may be better to consider smaller dog breeds, however, depending on the size of the apartment and the disposition of the dog it’s certainly still possible to adopt bigger dogs!

B - Medium-sized dogs could fit perfectly in your situation! Here, they have enough room to run and play. However, this isn’t to say that you can’t adopt a smaller or larger dog!

C - Wow! A castle, really?! Why not check out large dog breeds, which will have plenty of space to romp and roam around and could even help you protect your castle.

Keep in mind, having different sized living situations doesn’t disqualify you from adopting specific sized dog breeds, however, it is important to keep in mind the size of the dog and how much room it may need when choosing which breed you may want to adopt.

How do you feel about dog hair?

hair type

A - If you don’t mind dog hair, you have plenty of options! However, if you don’t prefer long-haired dogs, it may be more simple to adopt a shorter haired dog. These generally require less work when it comes to grooming, (they need to have their hair brushed or cut less often), and it may also result in less time spent vacuuming up dog hair around the house.

B - Ahhh dog hair! Luckily, there are quite a few breeds that are hypo-allergenic! That means they generally shed less hair, and have less of an effect on those allergic to dogs. This makes them ideal in the case that you or someone in your family is allergic to dogs and dog hair or simply that you aren’t a big fan of cleaning up dog hair.

C - ITS SO FLUFFY! If you love love love, dogs with long hair, then it’s pretty obvious that the first place you should start looking when beginning your dog breed search is with long haired dogs! Luckily, there are plenty of different breeds of long haired dogs, of all different sizes, and even some which are hypoallergenic as well and don’t shed much.

What is your energy level?

Energy level

A - If you’re not looking to have to be extra active to keep up with your dog, it's maybe best to look into adopting a breed of dog that doesn’t require so much exercise. This is also something to consider regarding whether they have free roam to run and play when you don’t have time to walk them or if they are mostly confined in smaller spaces (in which case you may have to put more time aside to being active with the dog.)

B - Looking for a walking/jogging pal, but not in the mood to run a marathon chasing your dog all over the place? Then looking for a dog breed with a medium level of energy is probably the most suitable in your case. These are dogs that may need a bit of extra activity, going to the park a few times a week to play or requiring slightly longer walks.

C - Pro-sporter? Maybe you are looking for a dog that can keep up with you! In this case, you should look into breeds such as working dogs, which were initially bred to do things such as hunting, carrying things, or doing other such work. These breeds are generally more fit to join you on runs and may need extra activity to support their lifestyle and energy levels.
